Christ Church ACW Report The year 2007 was a very busy one. We quilted every Monday throughout the year; in the Summer at the Bloomfield Hall and in the oil-burning months in Claire Sanford’s basement. The “we” that was mentioned consisted of five of our ACW members plus from 8 to 11 people who are “friends” — people from Hatfield Point, Bloomfield, Norton, and Hampton who just love to quilt. Of our friends, only one of them is a member of one of our Parish churches. We take turns helping provide a nourishing meal at noon. At the beginning of the year, a baby quilt was given to Sara and Craig for their new family member, plus another one for our prayer partners Ann and Murray O’Coin’s new baby Sammy. It was decided not to continue having secret pals as some of our members are finding it difficult to get their presents to the right place at the right time. A Chili and Chowder Supper was held on March 24, 2007, and a flea market and bake table accompanied it. After the supper, the Sunday School put on a small, but well-choreographed performance followed by the ACW’s Brown Jug Band in which each member accompanied Maxine Clark playing on the mouth organ and the rest of the band with hand-held brown jug instruments. Claire Sanford was our amusing and amazing mistress of ceremonies. The Rev’d Bob LeBlanc played his guitar and sang some interesting pieces. Maxine Clark and Patti Hoyt also had a puppet show. A reception was catered by the ACW following the funeral of Audrey Logan, Patti Hoyt’s mother. A baby quilt and a small baby’s floor mat was donated to the United Church of Hampton’s Silent Auction. The money made by the auction was split between the United Church and the Food Basket. Dianne Reid and friends donated quilting books to our quilting group to be used as the beginning of a library available to our members. Patti Hoyt took several pictures of the Bloomfield covered bridge. From these, we chose a Fall picture having the Bloomfield Hall and Christ Church in the background. Patti had the photo developed to a larger size and framed. It was presented to Irene Humphrey at one of our Church fellowship times following a 9 am service as a thank you for all the years that she has organized, directed, and worked at our Strawberry Festivals. She was pleased to receive it. Claire Sanford donated two throws to be sold at the Flea Market held at Trinity Church’s Bazaar in November. Our quilters helped quilt a quilt in our Hall intended for those in need, made by the members of the Sussex Vale Quilters’ Guild. Throughout the year, money was sent to the O’Coins’ for their ministry on the reservation. At Christmas time, it was decided to send them $300 to be used as they saw fit instead of buying gifts and mailing them to them. For our eleven “quilting friends,” our ACW members made about 40 cookies each, then, we gathered at Claire Sanford’s one night and filled 11 baskets with cookies, plus 2 spools for quilting thread and a “fat quarter” of fabric for each. We presented them at our last quilting session of the year. They were very pleased. We also presented Claire Sanford with a quilt at that time which had been designed by some of our members. It was made and quilted by us in secret as a thank you gift to her for having us regularly quilting and eating in her house. She was one surprised lady! As well as the seniors of the neighbourhood, we invited the members of the new families that had moved into our neighbourhood (about 6 families) to our congregational dinner held on December 16. Unfortunately, it was a very stormy night and only about 40 persons, including one new family came. The numbers were disappointing, but the workers felt that it was more enjoyable because we could enjoy our guests more as we didn’t need to work so hard. We ended the year with a Christmas Party held at the home of Maxine Clark. Each member brought food, a gift not exceeding $10 in value, and received a gift. We enjoyed a delicious supper and caroling afterwards. As a gift to each of our two priests, we made a donation to their favourite charity. It was a good year. Our new executive is as follows: President, Raegan Hoyt; Vice-President, Anne Walling, Secretary, Connie Neales; Treasurer, Patti Hoyt; Quilt Reporter, Claire Sanford Respectfully submitted, Connie Neales, Secretary
